DCG LAUNDRY GUIDE

Airbnb Laundry for Nairobi Hosts: 8 Tips for Fast Turnovers

Clean, complete linen is basic to a good guest stay, but turnover pressure makes mistakes easy. Hosts need more than fast washing. They need enough stock, a clear item count, realistic handover times and a backup plan for stains or delayed check-outs.

Use the sections below as a working checklist. Fabric labels and garment condition always take priority over general advice.

1. Keep at least one backup set

A property should not depend on the same sheets being washed and returned before every check-in. Keep a complete backup set for each bed and enough towels for the maximum occupancy. A buffer protects the turnover when a stain needs extra treatment or a guest leaves late.

2. Standardise linen where possible

Using the same sheet sizes, towel colours and duvet covers across similar units reduces sorting errors. Label storage shelves by bed size and property. Standardisation also makes it easier to identify shortages before the cleaning team reaches the unit.

3. Count items at every handover

Use a short checklist for sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, bath towels, hand towels and bath mats. Record damaged or missing pieces separately. A consistent count prevents confusion between the host, cleaner and laundry provider when several units turn over together.

4. Separate stains before bagging

Do not hide stained linen in the middle of a bag. Place it in a separate section and note the likely cause. Early identification gives the laundry team a better chance to assess the mark before heat or a normal cycle sets it.

5. Agree a realistic collection window

Traffic, lift access, security gates and guest departure times all affect the handover. Share building instructions and a reliable contact person. Confirm the return deadline before collection and avoid assuming that every large load can be completed on the same schedule.

6. Pack each property separately

When one host manages several units, use labelled bags or a clear packing list for each property. Mixing similar white linen across units creates counting problems. Separate packing makes restocking faster and gives the property team a clearer audit trail.

7. Track linen condition

Mark items that are thinning, permanently stained or near replacement. Waiting until a guest complains is more expensive than rotating worn linen out early. Keep replacement stock separate and review condition on a simple monthly schedule.

8. Test the laundry partner with one turnover

Before moving every unit to a new provider, send one representative load. Check cleaning, folding, item count, communication and packaging. Then agree the repeat schedule and quotation using the actual result rather than a sales promise.

A practical note before you start

Always read the care label before washing or treating an item. Test unfamiliar products on a hidden area and stop if colour transfers, fabric changes or the label calls for professional cleaning.

When you are unsure, take a clear photo of the item, stain and care label. A professional cleaner can give more useful guidance with that context than with a garment description alone.

When professional help makes sense

Home care is useful for routine laundry, but some jobs need more space, controlled drying or specialist handling. Structured garments, delicate fabrics, old stains, bulky bedding and time-sensitive business linen are good reasons to ask a professional before experimenting.
