DCG LAUNDRY GUIDE

How Often Should You Wash Your Sheets, Duvets & Towels?

Bedding does not all need the same wash schedule. Pillowcases and sheets touch skin every night, while the duvet filling sits behind a removable cover. Your routine should also reflect pets, allergies, illness, sweating, guest turnover and the manufacturer’s care instructions.

Use the sections below as a working checklist. Fabric labels and garment condition always take priority over general advice.

Sheets and pillowcases: usually weekly

A weekly wash is a practical baseline for bedding used every night. Wash sooner after illness, heavy sweating or visible soiling. Follow the care label and avoid overloading the machine, since sheets need room to move and rinse properly.

Duvet covers: every one to two weeks

A duvet cover protects the filling and is much easier to wash than the duvet itself. Many households wash it with the sheets. Close zips or buttons before washing and make sure the cover is fully dry before putting it back on the duvet.

Duvet filling: periodically, not weekly

The filling needs less frequent cleaning when it is protected by a cover. Timing depends on use, pets, spills, allergies and the label. Clean it promptly after a significant spill. Large duvets may need professional equipment for even washing and thorough drying.

Pillows: follow the label and filling

Some synthetic pillows can be machine washed, while foam and feather products may need different care. Use pillow protectors to reduce direct soiling. Check that washable pillows dry completely through the centre before returning them to the bed.

Bath towels: after several uses

Towels should dry fully between uses. Wash them sooner if they remain damp, smell stale or are shared. Avoid crowding the drum and use the detergent dose recommended for the load. Too much product can leave residue that affects absorbency.

Guest and Airbnb linen: after every stay

Every guest should receive freshly cleaned sheets, pillowcases and towels, even after a short stay. Keep backup sets so cleaning does not hold up the next check-in. Record stained or damaged pieces separately before the laundry handover.

Blankets and throws: based on use

A decorative throw used occasionally needs less frequent cleaning than a blanket used every night or shared with pets. Vacuum or air suitable items between washes, but follow the label before using water, heat or a tumble dryer.

A practical note before you start

Always read the care label before washing or treating an item. Test unfamiliar products on a hidden area and stop if colour transfers, fabric changes or the label calls for professional cleaning.

When you are unsure, take a clear photo of the item, stain and care label. A professional cleaner can give more useful guidance with that context than with a garment description alone.

When professional help makes sense

Home care is useful for routine laundry, but some jobs need more space, controlled drying or specialist handling. Structured garments, delicate fabrics, old stains, bulky bedding and time-sensitive business linen are good reasons to ask a professional before experimenting.

Questions before you book.

Call or message the DCG team if your item, address or timing needs a more specific answer.

If heat increases sweating, a shorter interval may feel fresher. Weekly remains a useful baseline, adjusted for comfort, use and care instructions.

It is usually better to give bulky sheets enough room to move. Separate by colour, fabric and temperature requirements, and avoid overloading the drum.
